Financial Analyst/Senior Financial Analyst – Research and Development
In this newly created role, the selected candidate will be responsible for the consolidation, monthly and quarterly updates for actual results and program forecast of the global, consolidated financial budgets and forecasts for R&D. This person will be responsible for the distribution of monthly and quarterly reports to senior management highlighting and reporting on variances from budget and prior forecast. This involves cross-functional internal collaboration with all departments of the organization. S/he also works closely with the corporate accounting organization to ensure proper expense recognition and compliance with internal controls, including government grant accounting. Successful candidates will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at varying levels within the organization. The candidate will be expected to produce quality work in an organized, timely, and efficient manner.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Management of the global consolidated budget and forecast for the Research and Development Organization
Support Business Partners on budget and long-range forecast processes, as well as periodic forecast updates
Participation in Clinical Trial / Project Review meetings, assist in providing monthly financials, forecasts, and budgets to Trial / Project teams
Prepare and distribute Budget Variance Analysis reports and perform analysis vs. current and annual plans
Support Budgeting, Forecasting, and Monthly Reporting Cycles across all R&D functions
Maintain close communication with program management teams and financial leaders at the business unit and functional level to ensure timely understanding of risk factors that may impact forecasts
Develop and build expense project tracking models supporting R&D
Analyze large amounts of information to understand the story behind the numbers
Maintain standard reporting tools to help identify key risks and opportunities
Participate in finance system optimization to streamline data gathering processes for reporting accuracy and efficiency
Support financial and business controls and standards, including SOX requirements
Oversee government grant accounting (BARDA/NIH and equivalent private sector foundations), ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and accurate reporting of grant funds used within R&D projects
Preparation of all applicable management reporting, KPI, and audit schedules, including those related to government grants and contracts
Special projects/ad hoc analysis as necessary
Education & Experience:
BS degree in Finance or Accounting, relevant financial planning and analysis experience Skills and Qualifications required:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Strong understanding of the budgeting process
Demonstrated experience performing modeling, forecasting and budgeting-related activities
Solid accounting and financial reporting experience in an operational environment.
Analytical (intellectual curiosity) approach to job responsibilities with emphasis on process improvement and business relevancy
Proven ability to be effective as a business partner to operations management.
Detailed oriented, analytical, self-starter essential
Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively tailor communication to varying levels within the organization.
